1. 細めの板材やブリケットを隙間を空け重ねて行きます。
2. 空気調整レバーを引き空気量を最大にします。
3. 着火材を３箇所ほど置き、マッチやライターで点火します。
4. 完全に着火するまでは正面扉は少し開けておき５分ほどしたら扉を閉じます。
5. 薪がおき火の状態になったら、炉の大きさに合わせた適量の薪を投入する。
6. 扉は、空気調整レバーを引いてまずは少しだけ開く。その後一呼吸おいてから扉を開けると煙が逆流しない。
7. 空気調整レバーで吸気量を調整し必要な燃焼を保つ
8. 吸気量を少し抑えるとオーロラのように火が揺らめきます。

薪ストーブは360度に熱を出すということを考えて設置する場所を検討する

ファンヒーター型の暖房機と違って、薪ストーブは熱源として360℃に熱を放射します。
効率から考えて家の真ん中への設置が理想的ではありますが、レイアウトの問題で置き場所を変えるのが一般的です。

背面への熱以外は生かされるため中央壁面への設置が次に効率的な配置です。

コーナーへの設置は部屋の角におくことで、暖房効率は下がりますが、一番広く部屋を使える利点があります。

壁面やコーナーへ設置する場合は、防火対策と同時に無駄な熱を逃がさないために、背面を蓄熱、遮熱壁を作ります。

また、熱は上昇し滞留する特性があるので、吹き抜けなどの場合は、シーリングファンの設置により部屋全体が暖かくなります。

薪ストーブで重要な煙突に関して

薪ストーブの正常な燃焼には「煙突」がとても重要で、煙突は「断熱二重煙突」を用いることが基本です。
「断熱二重煙突」が必要な理由は薪ストーブの「ドラフト」効果の向上のためです。

火が効率良く燃えるためには「吸気」が必要で、そのためには勢いよく煙を「排気」しなくてはいけません。
この気流の流れを「ドラフト」と呼びます。

煙突は基本的に出口に向かうほど温度が下がりますが、「断熱二重煙突」は煙突上部まで、高い温度を維持できるため、上昇気流による強い排気（ドラフト）が実現します。
